Cloves have long had important medical uses: as an antiseptic to stave off cut and wound infections; as a short-term remedy for toothaches; as an antiemetic (to helps control vomiting); and as a treatment for diarrhea and some parasitic infections.

Studies have also shown that the oil in cloves can help kill several strains of Staphylococcus bacteria and one strain of Pseudomonas (organisms that can cause skin infections), so you may be well advised to add cloves to your diet, especially during cold and flu seasons.
